CREATIVE DIRECTION : “Off The Wall” Stories of Van’s Athletes Using the Latest Goods in Real Life.
CLIENT : Vans
MY ROLE : Creative Director

Storytelling with ambassadors can be really fun and meaningful if you work with them as partners rather that “talent”. At least that’s what I learned while working with Vans and their good people. I created a couple stories to share in print, digital, and social which featured Vans athletes doing real life adventures. Working with the Vans team as partners from concept to shoot to sharing kept us all happy an on the same page.

Think Local Skate Global

The goal was to feature Vans global female skate ambassadors. I came up with the idea to connect women in Japan, Brazil, and California with readers by interviewing them about travel and the importance of staying local.

Listen to the Eyes

The goal was to feature a Vans sponsored snowboarder, their new line of goods, and a film they feature in. I came up with the idea to connect all these elements in a road trip story to the film premiere. Although the snowboarder isn’t a writer I directed her to write the story the way she would to a friend and I hired an editorial/product photo to go along for the ride to shoot both the fun of the road trip and the new line of products in use. The results where a personal and relatable story that reached all the goals.

Surfing with Salmon

The goal was to feature a famous Vans snowboard ambassador who lives in Oregon. Since he was already well-known for snowboarding I thought we could find a more compelling story by having him try something new. I put together a production plan and crew to follow him and his friends on a surf trip. We featured local shops and personalities as we guided them on an adventure unique to the place. This was one of those project where the crew really enjoyed being together and that joy came through in the final work.
