MY ROLE : Art Director
Beginning in 2008 I art directed the Portland Mercury for 7 years. It was a lot of fun, a lot of stress, and a lot of learning. I built a solid list of talented and reliable illustrators, photographers, writers, and people who were willing to do anything to serve the story. One guy even got the cover tattooed on his back (yes, that really happened). One of the greatest lessons I learned was that creative freedom thrives when you look beyond budget and time restrictions to do everything you can with what is available.
