Creative Direction : Inspire locals and visitors to explore the state of Oregon
Client / Agency : Travel Oregon / Wieden + Kennedy
My Roles : Art Director, Copy Writer, Illustrator
I had the honor and total pleasure of working on four different campaigns for Travel Oregon trough Wieden + Kennedy. They invited my son Camper and I star in one of the ads about the coast, so you could say I put my blood and soul into working for this client. The work was so big and far reaching that Travel Oregon used it for over 8 years before moving into a new direction.
Oregon Maps
At first this was just an internal art project for Dan Wieden. Since Travel Oregon was his pro-bono client for more years than I know, I was asked to paint him a map of Oregon. He loved it and the client loved it too. It became a campaign that lasted for many years. I painted countless illustrations of cute animals doing fun things in Oregon along with all the bountiful food and natural beauty the state has to cherish.
The Seven Wonders of Oregon
I illustrated organic logos for the seven wonders of Oregon. They were used in video, print, stickers, and even turned into actual tread patches. The look was an evolution of the map illustrations I created in the previouse campaign.
Oregon 365
The first campaign I worked on was creating a calendar of events and unexpected locations to visit throughout the year of 2006-7. This experience taught me how important it is to stay connected to fresh information and new cultural developments. I also developed a solid list of local photographers, cinematographers, musicians, and event planners to work with as partners.
The Oregon 150 Challenge
As part of Oregon’s 150th birthday celebration in 2009 I developed the concept that encouraged people to road trip around Oregon. This was a pre-instagram photo content, so at the time it was more of a challenge that the typical “tag-and-win” type contents that came later. I also did the illustrations.
My personal goal was to create ads for friends. I think that happened.
